Good morning rabbosai. Pasuk Yud Aleph. Mezimah tishmor alecha, tevunah tintzoreka. So mezimah is lashon, let's say eidim zomumim, So zamam means in that context conspired but it means machshavah. So Mezimah tishmor alecha v'hayinu says the Gaon מחשבות הטוב ישמרו עליך that you'll be guarded, your preoccupation with machshavos hatov will safeguard you. The machshavos hatov will safeguard you. The mashmaos in the Gaon here is that kimdumeh that he means as follows. This is true on two levels. I think the Gaon sounds more that he intends the second of the two levels that we're going to mention. The first level is if you take a look at the Rambam at the end of Hilchos Issurei Biah the very final halacha in Hilchos Issurei Biah so the Rambam writes that יתירה מכל זאת אמרו above and beyond all other harchakos from arayos all of which have their place and all of which contribute in terms of their effectiveness יתירה מכל זאת אמרו יפנה עצמו ומחשבתו לדברי תורה v'yarchiv da'ato b'chochmah maybe it's yafneh atzmo yeah yafneh atzmo a person should turn himself and his thoughts l'divrei Torah v'yarchiv da'ato b'chochmah שאין מחשבת עריות מתגברת אלא בלב פנוי מן החכמה. It's only when there's a vacuum only when there's a void of chochmah that machsheves arayos has an opening to enter. So that's call it on a natural level. The more one's mind is preoccupied with inyanei kedushah so there is no again there's no vacuum there's no void that allows for less welcome machshavos. But kimdumeh that the Gaon here means it as a more of a segulah not so much in terms of just the natural dynamic and the natural effect of being preoccupied with machshavos machshavos haTorah but that b'ofen segulati the machshavos haTorah themselves have this effect. That's why the beginning is in the I guess sort of italics or whatever it is mezimah yesod hadaas Tevunah tintzoreka again we had the lashon natzur already natzor leshoni also a lashon of safeguarding but we saw previously that the Gaon explains that it means a shmirah which is even more me'ulah than that which is expressed by the lashon of tishmor alecha.
So implicitly in the footnote actually has I think maybe no maybe not implicitly it's clear from the Gaon's comment on the second half of the pasuk that the first half of the pasuk is that מחשבות התורה ישמור עליך that the machshavah. The first half of the posuk is talking about a person being saved from hirhurim. And the second half of the posuk is talking about a person being safeguarded from actual aveira, aveiros ma'asiyos.
That requires shmira yeseira in the following sense, in the following context: כי כבר היה מחשבתו בהן ולא פנה עצמו ובא לעשות.
If a person had entertained hirhurei aveira, so there's a certain, I don't know, call it the mental momentum or whatever, there's a certain momentum and that's why to be safeguarded from aveiros ma'asiyos ולזה צריך שמירה יתירה כי כבר היה מחשבתו בהן v'lo pinah atzmo, meaning he didn't turn himself away from those machshavos ובא לעשות הוא צריך שמירה כעניין נצורה. So this he requires now a higher level of protection, and that when a person has the tevuna again as we saw earlier, there's chachma and then there's tevuna in the chachma, there's bina and then there's tevuna in the bina as we saw earlier, so that affords him this extra measure of protection v'hu nishmar mitevuna. He's safeguarded mitevuna, the tevuna is the source, mem in the sense of the source of, not that he's being guarded from against, but he's being guarded from in the sense of this is the source of the shmira והוא נשמר מתבונה שהיא גבוהה מהדעת which is greater than da'as, and as a result, and also v'hi mispashetes yoser. It's more encompassing. Okay, good, so that's it for today rabosai beli neder im yirtzeh Hashem we'll continue with this tomorrow and we'll resume on kuf yud daled at about 12:30 im yirtzeh Hashem beli neder. Have a very very productive good morning rabosai everyone be well be safe be'ezras Hashem.
