Throughout the halacha the Rambam speaks in the plural. u'ru u'ru yeshenim, hakitzu, chipsu, chizru, shochechim, habitu l'nafshoteichem, hetivu darcheichem and then all of a sudden at the end he shifts lashon yachid.
So before trying to understand just to point out it's very very self-evident the Rambam's makor for this, the Rambam patterned this halacha, he modeled this halacha after the psukim in Yeshayahu. So Yeshayahu HaNavi speaks belashon rabbim. But then he shifts, He's no longer speaking to a group, he's now speaking to each individual belashon yachid. So what's the pshat? So lichora the simple pshat is as follows. We can and we should talk in groups, collectively, about the need to do teshuvah, the need to be awakened, the need to take advantage of these precious days of Elul and then of Aseres Yemei Teshuva. So that's all something that we can talk about in a group setting. But when it comes to actually doing the teshuvah, when it comes to actually strategizing and implementing the teshuvah, so everyone has to do that on individual basis. And that's for at least two reasons. Number one, everyone has their own we all say the same al chet from the machzor but we each have our own chata'im that need to be repaired, our own deficiencies that need to be corrected. And even to the degree that two people have share a common flaw or are both remiss in a certain area, guilty of a certain chet, it doesn't necessarily mean that the way they're going to do teshuvah is identical. Part of doing teshuvah is having a plan of action, a strategic plan of action for in the past I've also not wanted to be nichshal. So how am I going to go about it that this time to make that kabbala stick? How is it realistically, how am I going to succeed in implementing this kabbala? That's something which has to be very very much individualized, And that's what the Rambam echoing Yeshayahu HaNavi says on an individual basis when it comes to the actual implementation so that's bilshon yachid. Because even if they did the aveira together, if even if we get together and we commit the aveira together, we still need individually. Thank you Rabbi for the question.
